Seminar “The imaginary Piano”

The history of the piano repertoire is dotted with experimenters: pianists and composers who, as true pioneers, they crossed the boundaries of sound and piano technique of their time, imagining new ones possibilities and finding the means to realize them. The experiments of Chopin, Ravel, Bartók (to name a few) are familiar to everyone. These musicians, in their contemporary, they “extended” the expressive capabilities of the instrument, they invented gestures, sounds, attack methods, unheard of at the time, then became part of our musical baggage. And what about our contemporary? There is a whole territory of more recent exploration, extremely rich and still little known. A territory that “extends” the instrument by exploring it in the its entirety. What happens if the pianist, for example, gets up from the keyboard and “steps over” the music stand? Or turn around the instrument? Or includes in his definition of pianism also the sounds of mechanics and of the pedals? And if we approached the piano as a stringed instrument, given that it has many strings gifted? Or as a percussion instrument, which in addition to its own hammers can be played by other types of drumsticks? This is the territory of the so-called extended techniques, which we will get to know them together during this meeting.

Seminar Orff-Schulwerk “From feet to head”

The seminar “From feet to head” – sound experience as musical learning – will be held in collaboration with Orff Schulwerk Italiano. It focuses on the use of the body and movement as a privileged vehicle for musical learning. They will be proposed structured and free dances, pantomime, bodily expressiveness and the use of the spoken and sung voice, of teaching tools, of common objects reinterpreted creatively to approach the different elements of musical language in an active form, experiential and appropriate for the age groups of reference. The development of the experience, through didactic / pedagogical reflection, carried out both in personal and shared form, aims to encourage participants to master a practical use of learning, which can result in the acquisition of awareness and methodological competence. It is aimed at teachers, musicians, trainers, musical operators, social workers, university students of the two-year teaching period of the conservatory and of education and training sciences. What is the Orff-Schulwerk system? A difficult word for a simple pedagogical idea: music is learned by making it and not by abstracting it. Learning to write notes on the staff does not mean “learning the music” but learning to code it: starting downstream instead of upstream. Music is “learned” instead, first of all, by concretely translating one’s need to live it physically and emotionally, so that it contributes to our formation and global growth as individuals. You “learn” through a creative and collective experience that involves everything that is or can be inherent in music: gesture, movement, dance, verbal scanning, vocalism, musical instruments, dramatization and performance. Through all this we will be able to “learn”, that is “understand” music: understand how and why it is born, identify its expressive and structural components and, finally, rationalize it, also through notation as an indispensable form of memorization and communication.

The seminar will take place between 8 and 10 july for a 20-hour course recognized as completion of the national training courses of the OSI OrffSchulwerk Italiano organized by the Popular School of Music “Donna Olimpia” with teachers Francesca Lanz e Marcella Sanna.

The cost of the Orff-Schulwerk Seminar is 160 € if you already have the card and 175 € for all the others. You have a 20% Discount on this Seminar if you are already signed in to a Masterclass.
